Cal Vicenta, they/them
OPERATIONS MANAGER
cal@girlsrocknc.org
Cal is a musician and organizer based in Durham, North Carolina. They previously spent two years as an Engagement Program Coordinator at the North Carolina Budget & Tax Center. In 2020, they graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill with a bachelor's in Public Policy & Sociology.
Cal began their journey with Girls Rock NC (GRNC) in the summer of 2018 as an intern from the Moxie Project Program hosted by the Carolina Women’s Center. Following their first summer of camp, Cal continued to serve and participate in GRNC in various capacities - resident gear gremlin, Rock Roulette participant, programming & fundraising committee member, organizer, and, as of 2022 fall, CORE Team member. Throughout the past five years, witnessing the ability of GRNC spaces to empower youth and provide a space for young people to find themselves through art and creative expression is what has kept Cal committed and involved in this community.
Outside of their role and involvement with GRNC, Cal enjoys spending their time cooking with friends, going on walks (when the weather is nice), exploring sound, and learning as much as they can.

Hema Gaia, they/them
TEAM COORDINATOR
hema@girlsrocknc.org
Hema Gaia is a multimedia artist, performer, teacher, and organizer born and based in Raleigh, NC. Their art practice and ecosystem building intends to shift existing structures and mindsets into environments of abundance, liberation, equity, and joy.
Gaia produces experimental music and DJs solo, as well as in the duo Sand Pact and former solo project Gudiya. After graduating from NC State University’s College of Design, they continued to deepen relations with individuals and groups in the south including Hopscotch Music Festival, NCSU Libraries, Central Park School for Children, and Carolina Youth Action Project.
Their belief in the radical, limitless power of youth and the healing potential of art are what first drew them to volunteer with Girls Rock NC in 2016. Since then, they have served with the organization as a Camp Director, Shifter, and now Team Coordinator. Throughout their work, they hope to inspire trans youth, non-binary youth, and girls of color in the South to follow their artistic dreams in a world that often discourages them from doing so. Gaia loves to swim in rivers, make electronic music, pull tarot, and dance through the night with friends.
