About the Working Board of Directors
GRNC operates through the combined efforts of two part-time staff members (an Operations Advisor and Strategic Program Coordinator), a working board of directors, and an ever-growing community of volunteers.
The working board is a group of dedicated volunteers who are responsible for:
Ensuring the long-term sustainability of the organization, and, in 2025, continuing to execute the strategic planning process
Continuously assessing how our actions align with our mission and core values, and adjusting our practices as needed to bring them in greater alignment
Supporting staff in bottom-lining programs, communications, and operations
What You Gain as a Board Member of GRNC
Be engaged with artists and advocates who share values of gender equality, youth power and political education.
Direct community connections to the many roots of a respected 18 year old organization and global connections through the Girls Rock Alliance network.
Ability to influence the communal decision making, non-hierarchical structure of GRNC and be a key change maker to grow this organization.
Support youth with marginalized gender identities in holding their own expressive power and autonomy.
Commitments of being a GRNC Board Member
To uphold these responsibilities, working board members meet regularly with staff and other volunteers to advance the strategic planning process and to check in on other active projects, taking on tasks to be completed outside meeting times and otherwise offering support as able.
Working board members can expect to work 1-5 hours per week and must be able to:
Attend virtual biweekly (every other week) Strategic Planning meetings
If on a team, attend team meetings
Actively participate in meetings (listen, volunteer for tasks as your time/capacity allows)
Actively participate in Slack communications (keep up-to-date on messages, reply in a timely manner)
Help the group hold each other accountable for completing tasks and meeting collective goals
Commit to 1-2 years on the board (although we completely understand things come up and life circumstances change!)
QUALIFICATIONS FOR MEMBERSHIP
Our board members bring a wide range of experiences, knowledge bases, skills, and views to our organization. Above all, we are looking for working board members who:
Can meet the above-mentioned commitments
Are aligned with GRNC's core values and are passionate about our mission
Are open to collaborative decision-making processes
Are open to learning and willing to engage conflict as needed
